Hannah Elvery at Herbarium C informally inquired whether the barcode labels at Herbarium C were suitable for alcohol while in the kantine at ZM on 15 or 16 October and then followed up with an email on 17 October - asking if the labels could be suitable for alcohol -either outside or inside the jars. barcodes for alcohol.pdf

Looked through old Github tickets pertianing to label acquisition in 2022 (https://github.com/NHMDenmark/Mass-Digitizer/issues/29) and (https://github.com/NHMDenmark/Mass-Digitizer/issues/26)

What I could find from our documentation is that the label adhesive is permanent solvent acrylic base substrate is 8100M Matte White Polyester printing is conducted via thermal transfer I couldn’t find what the ‘ink’ was.

So, I tried chatting with CILS International to resolve what the ink technology is and if the labels are safe to either be submerged in alcohol or placed on the outside of jars containing alcohol.

Alcohol Lewis Manville said “Yes, the labels and ribbon are alcohol resistant but for something this specific then we would always recommend the end user to test.”

Ink Lewis Manville said “the ribbon is our own ribbon which is our CILS-TTR-ARA1-110/300 and this is a resin ribbon”
