This is a draft PR to address any comments relating to the introduction notebook.

@ejsimley and @jordanperr feel free to commit and comment as you please, this is purely to address issues as we see them in the examples for the next batch of PRs.

This is getting merged now as it didn't seem overly helpful for organizing our thoughts on more improvements to the intro notebook.
