Biographies picture scaling nightmare [RELATED: #6549] #6528

I have tried everything to make pictures in the biography module to show to scale. Today, Dr. Ernest Bernard authorized me to reuse this picture of Karl Wilhelm Verhoeff (https://www.flickr.com/photos/140059422@N06/25398860084), but there is no way for the picture to show in full and with correct proportions in Verhoeff's biography. I even added a white square background, resized the resulting image to 1024x1024 pixels, and it still does not show with the correct proportions when uploaded to the bio. Could someone please solve this issue?

Okay, I tried again Account settings -> Picture display style -> Large (400x400) -> Picture upload dimensions -> 1024x1024 pixels. It worked this time, but it still implies that images need to be processed by adding a white background making them square, and that the correct upload setting needs to be selected. A tutorial would solve this in the short term, but it would be good if the module would have a setting for "any image proportion", and that the images are not resized when uploaded.
