"section 4.6.1: In general, there are several parameters, that have an impact on a feasible sampling interval and therefore on the error of the reconstructed true oxygen profile. Here, we could refer to Bittig et al. (2014): "Time response of oxygen optodes on profiling platforms and its dependence on flow speed and temperature". The impacting parameters are: response time, profiling velocity, (vertical) oxygen gradient. Bittig et al. (2014) write, that "the sample interval should be significantly shorter than the response time τ to resolve gradient regions and to be able to reconstruct the true oxygen profile." It seems rather difficult to provide a precise number for the sample interval, but I interprete "significantly shorter" as an order of magnitude difference."
@ptestor raised this point: "section 4.6.1: we should better document why 5 s is the recommendation... Why not 8 s? or better 2 s? what are the consequences?"
