Currently if the image has a different aspect ratio than the product template the image is cropped and zoomed to fit. In some cases this is great, in others it trims essential parts of the photo. Letterboxing/Pillarboxing the image would be preferable in these other cases as it allows users to see the whole content. The background color (often black) should be configurable, ultimately by the customer, but in some cases the developer should be able to provide a preference (too match the background color of the image) or the product itself may provide a preference (e.g. the framed photo has a white inner border, outside of a customer preference or developer preference the product preference would be white to match this inner border).
