Good hints, photon is a fantastic tool - I used it myself already for geocoding. Also, great project! I have been yearning for something like this for years to finally get rid of the madness that is data lock-in to GMaps and Facebook and weird ad-filled business directory sites.

As for reviews, also consider:

What is your current state? Just a hobby project, or already got some foundation?

Actually we plan to use https://mangrove.reviews/ for reviews. not sure what are the pros and cons. I am following openplacereviews.org for quite a while and it seems stalled.

About the current state: We are currently exploring partnership for another African city, to set something up. There was quite some development during the last week(ends) in https://github.com/OpenPlaceGuide/opg-pages - but it's still in the beginning.

lib.reviews has federation as foundation, which I find vital, while mangrove is only considering it so far: https://mangrove.reviews/standard#changes-currently-being-considered

I think any of those projects will stall until a proper collaboration implementing a use-case with broad acceptance is found. So I doubt that is a good indicator, since all of these people likely have passionate but timely limited people behind them.
