Valid concerns!
What is that service exactly doing? It's querying theTVDB.com to fetch alternative titles (e.g. German ones)
Why isn't it mentioned anywhere? Because the readme really needs to be completely redone and is already overloaded with information. I do agree that it should be mentioned somewhere of course, I just haven't had the time yet to write a new, better structured readme.
What kind of data does it store?
TVDB-Ids and their corresponding alternative titles and aliases.
User-Data that is saved for caching purposes: searched TVDB-Ids and search strings (e.g. game of thrones s01e01
). This data is not associated with any identifying information like IP-Address, User-Agent or anything.
You can compare it to skyhook, the TVDB-Wrapper for Sonarr and Radarr - which, by the way, is closed source (sadly!)
Where's the source code for this service? The source code is an absolute mess right now and needs to be created again from scratch, this was more of a quickly created proof of concept (really, it's terrible. Lot's of copy and pasted code from chatGPT and a terrible DB design :D). I've shared it before though for people who ask and will do again here of course. Once the code is recreated and makes more sense it will be put in a Github repo
Does it log things? No
Can I host it myself? Yes. All you need is a webserver with PHP and a TVDB-API-Key
I will upload the API source here soon
UmlautAdaptarr API 0.1.zip You have been sufficiently warned about the code quality :D
I've seen worse to be honest. Out of obvious security concerns, I'd love to have this as a docker image so I can deploy it myself.
I'm seeing API requests to:
https://umlautadaptarr.pcjones.de/api/v1/tvshow_german.php
This is a pretty red flag for me honestly.
