Swift Playgrounds App 4.0 breaks Parrot Education playgrounds #7

Open MeesterZee opened 2 years ago

Swift Playground app 4.0 (Dec 15 2021 release) breaks compatibility with the Parrot Education and Parrot Template playgrounds. The graphics and connect option fail to load and an error message is generated by Swift Playgrounds.

I just ran into this issue, has the problem been fixed, or is there a workaround?

I still haven't received any response from Parrot. Jerome Bouvard used to handle development of the Playgrounds book, but I have been unable to contact him. We've been forced to move over to Tynker to continue programming our Mambo drones (you don't need a subscription with the iPad app). I really loved the Swift Playgrounds because they were much more age appropriate for middle school.

Yes, the Playgrounds worked perfect for what I want to do with my drones and coding students. Please keep me updated on any progress. Is there anything I can do to help?

Hello again:

I’m checking in again about Playgrounds Parrot Education. I’ve been working the web hard for solutions but can find nothing. I’ve got Tynker ready as a plan B, but I’d really like to use Playground. Have you come across any way to solve this problem? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi David,

Unfortunately, I never received a response from Parrot. We ended up using Tynker to finish out our class. I'm disappointed by the lack of response from Parrot...visiting the Parrot website, it appears they've completely wiped all mention of Parrot Education which leads me to believe the playground book/education tools probably won't be updated. Such a bummer!

I found another post that mentioned this site: https://www.ftwcode.com/ However, I wasn't able to get it to connect with our Mambo drones via iPad or Chromebook. Please let me know if you have any success getting it to work.

Hello:

As we are on the subject, do you have any lesson plans/tutorials you might be willing to share? I might end up just copying what we did in Playgrounds. What have you done since it quit working?

Hi David,

I ended up just having students recreate the same activities in Tynker. Unfortunately, we decided to drop our Drones elective for Middle School this year. It's getting tough to find replacement parts for the Mambos and the lack of support from Parrot makes it difficult as well. Really miss the Playgrounds app since it worked so well!
