Versatile Scrapping/Metalworking #13

Really liked kaeldor's take on scrapping most things you think you'd be able to scrap. Think we should do something similar here. This will require a shitboatfuckton of recipes but shouldn't be a huge deal. Will be editing and adding recipes on this issue as i come up with them. Let me know if you think up some yourselves. Will also try to decide what amounts per scrapped item we want to start off with and adjust with testing. Some QoL recipes for ScrapMetal/UnusableMetal/WorkableIron like packaging them up for transport and storage, maybe halving the stack's weight.

Id like to suggest to use the same system as The Workshop mod, I very like it. Scrapping items directly to scrap metal is too op. The Workshop mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2680473910 This mod which we can integrated cus its open, it already has a very NICE recipe for casting metal bar's,pipes, small sheets you can also disassemble guns into gun parts which we can base our guns of off. and the system for creating scrap metal is nice since when scrapping parts like car parts you get metal parts which you can combine into scrap. if we wanted to we can add to this mod since the creator states (@Modders feel free to use my mod as a requirement for your own mod if you want to use some resources for crafting recipes!) Id prefer to use this mod due to it already having many systems we already want, and its already polished.

The plan will continue as is for v1.0 Later I will be open for intergrating the workshop mod properly with the inclusion of vanilla tools and vanilla weapons in the recipes and replacing the v1.0 "kaeldor" like system.

We will not integrate dependancies from other mods because the Project Zomboid community is undependable.

for piettrr's idea for making metal bar/pipes, we can use a metal casting recipe where you use scrapmetal/metal parts with propane and the cast of the item Turning metal parts/bars into metal parts Scrapping fire arms can be made into gun parts/scrap, and gun parts can be further rendered down into scrap Scrapping car parts should not be made into scrap and instead into metal parts as to give it more flexibility by number. Using Metal Parts as the first step to making items 3 metal parts into scrap metal, 100 metal parts into unusable metal, metal parts can be used in custom shotgun shells

An imprint mould is created with plaster and clay, typically earthy material

Sand. Sand casting has been a thing for ages and continues to be to this day. I've dabbled with it myself by melting soda cans in a crucible and pouring the molten aluminium into sand casts. I believe bags of sand are already a thing in PZ. A Sand Cast requires a pair of wooden boxes filled with sand (usually mixed with a little motor oil but that might be nitpicking) and a object to copy (or a steady hand and patience to carve out simple designs). The boxes are clamped together and molten metal is poured into it. After cooling you have your result.

To do it this way we would need the following items:

Crucible (would need to be made of stone or something like that) Casting Box (treat as a single item and is made from wood planks and sand) Tongs (Craftable by Metalworking) Bellows (Craftable via Tailoring) A Furnace

This would be exactly the kind of thing I'd love to see.

  • Basic would be large, made of stones and a bellows and be fuelled by charcoal (and could make charcoal) and take a bunch of time to work
  • Advanced would be smaller, made of an oil drum and bellows (Craftable by Metalworking) and be fuelled by propane and take less time
  • Electric would be a steel box lined with cement/concrete (Craftable by Metalworking and Electrical Skills) be powered by a generator and be super quick compared to the others.

This would be exactly the kind of thing I'd love to see.

See #14 for casting and or implementing actual smithing

What is the status on the packed unusable metal and the workable iron? ?
