Custom wine for The Sims 2 #87

We need the patched wine from link below to get this game fully working. https://github.com/lah7/sims-2-wine-patches

qparis commented 5 years ago

I have tried some stuff. Don't know if it's ok

Zemogiter commented 5 years ago

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

qparis made a custom distribution for Sims2 that would apply the provided patches onto the wine source.

So the only way to be sure it works or not would be to build it and test with the game.

Zemogiter commented 5 years ago

OK but there is already wine source with those patches applied https://github.com/lah7/sims-2-wine-patches/releases so we just have to download and build that. But I can't test them as my linux installation got broken. Every 15 seconds or so the system becomes unresponsive/sluggish for about 30 seconds. Noticed that durring this time the drive activity light stays on without a single blink. I had this issue before and I had to wipe my ubuntu installation and reinstall it. Tried removing the recently installed packages (libjpeg62 libjpeg62-dev) but it did not solve the problem. The SSD is not failing so i dont know.

qparis commented 5 years ago

I have used the patches instead of the sources. It's easier to chose what version to be patched. However, I'm notre sur if the patch were correctly applied

Zemogiter commented 5 years ago

Since the latest commit to phoenicis repo the sims2 is now among other wineDistributions however it's empty. It isn't inside Engines tab though.

ImperatorS79 commented 5 years ago

@qparis any news about this ? Is it really good to create a whole new distribution along staging, cx,... Just for one patched wine version ? Should not we create a distribution called "custom" or something like that ?

Zemogiter commented 5 years ago

@ImperatorS79 I am for the "custom" sub-tab in the engine tab. This should make things easier.

Gcenx commented 5 years ago

@ImperatorS79 i did request #65 tbat would cover the occasional custom build

qparis commented 5 years ago

I think the best way is one distribution per patch set. This makes things easier to track.

Now, the question is more about the UI thing: do we want distributions to be displayed as tab knowing that we will potentially have a large number of distribution

plata commented 5 years ago

Probably not a good idea. What about a list of all distributions with a filter?
