I've gotten this question multiple times from developers.  See:

We should just remove the "[[" and "]]" from the client_secrets.json file in 
all samples.

I'm one of them :-( I wasted 3 hours before I realised the mistake.
The confusion arises because [[ ]] is valid JSON.
