Connecting on PS4/5 #111

PS4/5 not able to connect using the provided DNS. This issue is to keep track of this in case you guys get a chance to take a look. The work around is below for anyone who is able to host bedrock connect locally.

I'll look into this further when I can. For now, anyone on PS4 should be able to join BedrockConnect on PS4 with this method, which is what I've seen commonly before featured servers came out on PS4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND_VFaAXC8M The method above can also be replicated by hosting a local BedrockConnect instance on your computer.

From what I can assume from my testing, Sony blocks specifically the BedrcokConnect DNS server. As if either DNS setting is set to the "standard" BedrockConnect address it will not allow any sort of internet connection. You can put literally any other string of numbers that won't work and it will use the other DNS.

Farthest I can do: change DNS, join BedrockConnect, start joining dedicated server, "You need to authenticate to Microsoft services." I'm stuck. I'm soooo close. lol Trying to help my friends do it without using phones/PCs.

(on ps5 btw)

If Sony is specifically blocking the hosted DNS server, you can try making your own.

Well, I am running a custom DNS server and while that did work for a few months. I am getting replies from my friends that it is no longer working as well.

Workaround: Run the bedrock connect jar from a laptop in the same network.

Next step is running it 24/7 on a Raspberry Pi ;-)

@timvandenhof That's really odd. I wonder if you can try changing the IP of your DNS server to see if maybe they just blacklisted the IP? Otherwise, it could mean they're doing something different with the way they resolve featured server addresses, which would be very unfortunate.
