Sitemap Generator not generating sitemap Win2k3 Server

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Installed sitemap generator (Win2003 Server SP2, IIS 6.0)
2. Open admin console
3. Webserverfilter show status of "running", but Number of collected URLs  
= 0

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected to see it find files on my website and create a sitemap file. 
Instead I just see it running with 0 files collected.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
sitemap_win-beta1-20090225.msi, Win2003 SP2, IIS 6.0

Please provide any additional information below.
Installation seems to have worked just fine, and I can see the service 
running, but repeated starts/restarts of the www publishing services 
produce the same (non-)results. No events in event log.

I'm seeing the following messages in the google-sitemap-generator.log file:
2009-08-20T22:34:27Z: Failed to open [C:\Program Files\Google\Google 
Sitemap Generator\/cache//1/data_current] to read.
2009-08-20T22:34:27Z: get_CurrentProfile failed: 0x800706d9
2009-08-20T22:34:27Z: Failed to change firewall setting (ignore).
and then tons of entries like:
