Bug: OpenPHT volume is stuck after Plex Companion usage #226

I discovered the ability of the Android client to control my OpenPGT installation on a Windows PC. It seems to be quite nice but there is a problem with volume control. It I connect with my Android and adjust the volume using the Android, the volume works. But if I lower the volume and then stop using the remote the volume output from OpenPHT can never be adjusted high enough from that point on. It doesn't matter if I reboot the OpenPHT computer, I can never get the volume high enough. If I then connect using the Android, I can get the volume working again. The only way to fix the issue is to always turn up the Andoid volume to full before I stop using it. From then on, it works OK using OpenPHT only. I have reproduced this on the latest release and on my second OpenPHT installation with an older OpenPHT install. This does NOT occur on the Plex WEB client. Version of OpenPHT = 1.8.0 Version of Plex Server on Synology 1.3.3059

What version of Windows are you using? What is your audio output device/channels set to in OpenPHT?

have you tried both in WASAPI and Directsound in openpht?

HiThis is Windows 10 64bit. I have tried all audio output settings. They all do the same. Thanks

i just tried this out with my android phone and windows 10 openpht

i cannot reproduce what you described, i played a video, lowered the volume half way via the phone, disconnected the phone, then simply increased the volume using the = on the keyboard for openpht, it went back to normal.

i tried playing the video first without remote and then playing it via the app, no issue

HiOk I figured out what is happening. What I said was happening is true but I never tried the = key since I do not have a keyboard hooked up.So if I use my tablet to set the sound level, it works up to the altitude set on the amp. If I then lower the sound way down using the tablet remote, and shut down, it keeps the low level that was set with the tablet. If the next time I startup without the tablet remote and use my normal remote, the sound is still set at the low level and I have to turn the amp way up.At this point if I go into the sound settings in the movie, the volume slider is inaccessible but does respond to the equal key as you say.  It just cannot be accessed via the menu.So my solution is to program in an = key on my IR remote.Normally I leave it at 0db and use the amp.Using the remote through me off.One suggestion though.. .shouldn't the volume slider be accessible in the menu anyways? It would be more consistent with what is actually available. Thanks, Tom

if your using a AMP imo you should be using the amp to control the volume and not windows/openpht imo, windows and openpht should be set to 100% and then all volume control is done via the amp, this is how i do it anyway when i set people up who have receivers with whatever htpc software

Hi I agree. But, and there's always a but...I just just started getting irule setup. One of the features supports launching the Android plex app but then it is on top of any of the controls for the amp....so I figured I would use the Android plex app to control the sound.I don't have a problem but the others in the house are less computer savvy. Perhaps I can write a little app to use the Android volume for the amp bypassing the volume control used for plex. Or, any other ideas? Thanks.
