After a discussion with the Head of Farms, we decided that we wanted to look into integrating the Brooms Barn into the Harpenden instance.
Reasons why historically it was two user accounts:
The extent of the maps
Equipment belonging to one site or another
Discussing this with Helen, she thought they were small user issues, especially as equipment often moves between the two sites. There were also several more important justifications behind her request to make the change:
Single-user accounts for other agricultural software and schemes. E.g. Red Tractor and John Deere
I discussed this on the call with @mstenta and @paul121 on Tuesday ad they had the following thoughts/ feedback:
In general it is easier to merge a database than to split one however this is still a large (1 day) to extra large (>1 day) task. Any taxonomy terms, equipment, etc that are on both sites will have to match exactly (although this is something we have to do anyway - for example see issues #157 and #274). The script can then go through and copy record by record.
Both sites need to be taken offline to do the transfer. This is because the universal id's on both sites are the same (e.g. there is a log 1 on both sites) and we don't want to take the risk of people creating records while the universal id's are being updated. Mike can probably do this during his day (our evening)
There is a question of how long we want to wait before doing this. There is an OpenTEAM funded issue at the moment to create organisations within a farm (much like what John Deere does) but that probably won't be released for several months. Personally, given the size of this issue I think it is worth waiting until that change has taken place as it saves us having to do two big internal administrative tasks (one for the transfer, another to update to new organisations within a single instance), but this timeline needs to be discussed with Helen.
