Since Alex will be a treasure hunter, there's good space for dark levels. Our treasure hunter can light them up with a flashlight. The flashlight:
lights up a certain distance in front of Alex
can run out of battery
has a stunning effect on certain enemies that only live in dark places (makes them stop shortly)
Dark levels can either be literally dark without the flashlight on or only show hints of the actual level outline in otherwise very dark environment. The battery running out requires the player to carefully weight use of the flashlight against just trying to find his way through the dark.
