Proof of concept to make sure we can meet all UI scenarios outlined in October. Also check for any other technical/policy issues with the proposed solution that would cause us trouble in the extension store.

@jaydeepsingh25 moving this to "almost done" since you've demonstrated it. If nothing else pending on this, I think it can be closed, since the work until actual functionality merge is handled in #391?
