Bug: Subtitles are completely broken visually on linux #1082

Describe the bug

Subtitles appear as a blank box on the top of the screen that occasionally displays the correct text but never long enough to read nor at the correct time.

Additional info ( in case any of this helps )

CPU: Intel i5-3340M (4) @ 3.400GHz
GPU: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
Kernel: 6.0.2-76060002-generic 
OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS x86_64

To Reproduce

  1. turn on captions
  2. do something that would trigger a caption
  3. observe the box of empty at the top of the screen

I want to give this issue a little bump. Because this has been fixed in Portal: Revolution. The subtitles on Linux work on Portal: Revolution. From what I know Strata games share code, so theoretically it'd be a drag and drop solution. (Don't quote me on this, obviously)
