Provide APK on F-Droid #60

Open rachyandco opened 4 years ago

rachyandco commented 4 years ago

F-Droid (https://f-droid.org) is the main opensource apps repository for users that do not have Google tools installed on their android.

The project could provide the APK on F-Droid to allow non google-tools users to install the app also.

The instructions for adding an app are located at https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md

This is dependent on issue https://github.com/DP-3T/dp3t-app-android-ch/issues/59

Maybe it would be better to add a "pre GAEN App" to F-Droid as suggested here: https://github.com/DP-3T/dp3t-app-android/issues/12

zukunft commented 4 years ago

If I read this "...wonach die App nachweislich aus dem veröffentlichten Quellcode erstellt worden sein muss." ( https://www.parlament.ch/de/services/news/Seiten/2020/20200603090721253194158159041_bsd042.aspx ) , it sounds to me, that an automatic F-Droid build would prove it.

it seems this is also about providing a build for F-Droid which is being discussed at issue https://github.com/DP-3T/dp3t-app-android/issues/12. I would request to close this issue and keep the discussion at one place.

The issue here is linked to the repo of the Swiss version of the app, while https://github.com/DP-3T/dp3t-app-android/issues/12 is in the repo of the demo app that has will never be published (As far as I understand)

So even though the discussion can take place at https://github.com/DP-3T/dp3t-app-android/issues/12 I would rather keep this issue open while the Swiss version is not published, as there could be specific additional issues related to the publication of the Swiss version of the app.

Looks like a possible solution could be to reuse https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-app-android/issues/1483# .

It looks like the solution will come when the pandemic will be almost over and vaccines are largely available. Same with an efficient Swisscovid app.

Yes, it is a kind of tragic.

I still have the complete open source app on my phone, that has been created in spring. The app is working perfectly fine beside the fact, that I am probably one of the few who is still "using" it. So, the main question is, why did almost no one use this app? And why are still more than 50% of the potential users not using this app? According to ZHAW the main reason is simply that most people don't know and don't care. I think, it would helpful, if people would do rational decisions if many others are influenced. But because most people decide more on feelings than on arguments, money has been proven to be a "good" argument. It looks like solving this issue may get easier, so I would like to raise the question: Is there any reason, why #251 should not be done?

@simonroesch do you know what is needed to get this app into fdroid?

Any update on this?

since CH is not able to provide this app on f-droid, I now installed the german app (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.corona.tracing/) which claims to be compatible with the swiss app (and several other EU countries !). It seems I will at least be informed if I meet someone tested positive. If I could warn others in case I'm tested positive in Switzerland is another question !

Filbuntu commented 3 years ago

@trefzer Smart idea! But hopefully the Swiss will also find a way to make it work with 😉 without Google!

trefzer commented 3 years ago

@filbuntu you mean without google ! anyway the patch seems to be available for months now !

zukunft commented 3 years ago

I also installed the German App.

cgrigis commented 3 years ago

A version without GAEN dependencies is now available on F-Droid. :)
