[Suggestion] Use potions to alter/generate genes #93

From Hulk on Discord. Combine DNA with brewing mechanics to allow for the creation of new genes. Possibly genes that cannot be gotten from mobs. Some thoughts:

I like this. Very Genetics Laboratory-ish, something I always liked having with advanced genetics in 1.7.10, but to the next level!

Question.. If you can change genes from one to another, will there be safeguards to prevent hard mode exploiting by completing easy gene and converting easy completed gene to harder completed gene? Or only incomplete genes only in this lab type gameplay?

clubpetey commented 5 years ago

@DartisXUI Yes, you can only change cells, not genes. check out this page for the details on how it works. Let me know if you see any flaws or have other comments: https://github.com/TheUnderTaker11/GeneticsReborn/wiki/Potions-(v1.15-)

When making plasmids, you cannot use basic genes, use must use mutated basics. In hard mode you cannot use mutated basics for plasmids.

If you can't you either basic genes or mutated basic genes in hard mode what do you use? Just didn't see that jump out at me. But I just woke up and haven't had my cuppa yet

In hard mode you must use the gene-specific helix (the ones that give you +2), that's why the potions give you cells with an increased change to get a specific gene... so in hard more to get Speed II, you will need 25 Speed II-specific genes 4 brewing runs plus 1 full minecraft day will give you 3 cells with a 50% chance of speed II, so I'll take 18 minecraft days (6 hours real time) on average to get Speed II.

clubpetey commented 5 years ago

For comparison, in regular mode, you will one speed II gene and 48 mutated genes, which will take you 1 minecraft day and 64 brewing runs. Not as long, but will consume a fair amount of resources for the brewing runs.

By saying for plasmids I meant Crafting them, my bad for poor communication...

How do you craft them if you can't use either - at least that's how the wiki read to me

clubpetey commented 5 years ago

OH! You can still use basic genes to craft the raw plasmid... By "making" I'm referring to using the plasmid infuser to add genes to the plasmid. Sorry, I wasn't clear on that.
