Standardize on a name #20

nfitch commented 10 years ago

Here are some options:

  1. Miner
  2. Hammerhead
  3. Minerhead
  4. Mineadm
  5. Mantrip (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantrip)
  6. Minetrip
  7. Minecloud (cloudmine.me taken though... so probably not)
  8. Minecrab

Others?

pborenstein commented 10 years ago

I'm partial to hammerhead because I came up with it, but it doesn’t really have anything that says “minecraft” Then again, none of the other names say anything that it’s a save/restore system, that it’s related to joyent or manta.

mamash commented 10 years ago

mcraft is an option, too.

peteryorke commented 10 years ago

And ramoray is already used, right?

Note: I deleted my comment that we'd go with "minerhead"... giving this a couple days for people to comment is a good thing, I think :)

Oh... hrm... Minetrip isn't bad. Added to the description.

nfitch commented 10 years ago

I think something in the name has to harken to something in minecraft, otherwise it's not going to stick. That's why I'm for things like "minerhead" and "minetrip" (over mantrip).

trentm commented 10 years ago

@nfitch I agree. It should have mine or craft in the name.

notmatt commented 10 years ago

"Where's your minecraft world, man?" "It's on..." :sunglasses: "...Cloud Mine"

Seriously. Sells itself.

lderezinski commented 10 years ago

+1 cloudmine

pborenstein commented 10 years ago

Dunno.

trentm commented 10 years ago

planetary resources? Screw mining the clouds. -> Space.

nfitch commented 10 years ago

Philip suggested minecrab. I've added that and minecloud to the suggestions. I don't think minecloud is a good idea... don't want to get people confused with some other person's thing.

pborenstein commented 10 years ago

minecloud already exists (https://github.com/toffer/minecloud) and does what we do, just not as well.

nfitch commented 10 years ago

Standardizing on 'minecrab'. The only downside is sounds like someone who has a cold saying "minecraft"... but, on the other hand, it's a minecraft-inspired sea creature!
