Summary

This pull requests adds documentation to src/utils.js file.

Changes Made:

Added file-level comments explaining the purpose and functionality of utils.js
Documented how each function works, including its behavior and its parameters
Provided some usage examples for one of the functions
Verified that all changes passed the linter and the test suite
