This study is based on 82 workplace ethnographies (i.e. the books published about the ethnography, not the transcripts of ethnographic interviews, as far as I can tell). Do you think similar work could be done with text analysis of the transcripts? How hard would it be to get those transcripts from ethnographers?
I also have some concerns about the coding of underlying ethnographies. How reliable is it to code behaviors in a binary (1 = occurs frequently / 0 = occurs rarely) and then use this binary for precise statistical analysis? I'm wondering if it's cause for further concern that the ethnographies were carried out by many different individuals. How can we control for what a "1" means in any given context?
