The process of obtaining a free (as in libre) software license for software produced at LIRIS is quite long and convoluted. Start this process now in order for 3D-Use (at least decent parts of it) to be free (as is "libre") before 2017... Without pointing fingers, this issue concerns mainly GGE ;-)

Dealing with the legalize of the license involves dealing with the SAT (the organization in charge of "valorizing" the LIRIS' laboratory software productions. Interacting with the SAT is known to be tricky and a delicate affair that require some (software license) knowledge and some long term strategy. Only GGE can thus handle this issue.
