It would be an awesome feature!
I might opt for the Mouse 4 button combined with spell hotkeys (Q, W, E, etc.) or ability hotkeys (Alt+Q, Alt+W, etc.). This is just an example, and the actual implementation could allow players to choose any convenient key combination.
Based on this new modifier button feature [Mouse 4] opens up a space for also implement an alternative modifier button [Mouse 5] to use skills of other controlled units without the unit being selected. Proposal: Enchantress catches a centaur. Holding Mouse 5 and pressing Q will cause the centaur to cast his first skill - his stun - without it being previously selected. To make things even more intuitive would be interesting to create a new feature that allows you when "ALT" is hold, if you move, only neutral/ilusions units will move. I already know that holding "CTRL" does something similarly, but its not the same. Holding "CTRL" and move will move all units.
Great post! Upvoted.
This has already been possible for a long time. Just enable Advanced Quickcast/Autocast Hotkeys then you can set hotkeys for "Autocast" abilities. Despite the name, these hotkeys work for self-casting as well as toggling autocast.
Description
In the current game setup, players can self-cast abilities via three methods:
However, there exists a specific scenario in which the first two options become unusable, pushing players to rely solely on manual mouse targeting. This arises when players:
For players operating within this framework, gameplay can sometimes become less fluid and intuitive. An added layer of complexity arises, potentially affecting their in-game performance.
Proposal: Introduce an optional, configurable dedicated hotkey solely for self-casting. For illustration, I might opt for the Mouse 4 button combined with spell hotkeys (Q, W, E, etc.) or ability hotkeys (Alt+Q, Alt+W, etc.). This is just an example, and the actual implementation could allow players to choose any convenient key combination. The aim is to streamline the self-casting process for many and customize the experience to fit varied user configurations.
