Proton 9.0-2 Release Candidate testing

Hey all!

We've put together a new 9.0 Release Candidate build for you to test.

In the Steam client the Proton 9.0 app should have a release-candidate beta branch (look for Proton 9.0 in your Steam Library, right click -> Properties... -> BETAS) which you can choose to start testing the 9.0-2 Release Candidates (note that the name of the build in the Steam Settings dialog will not be updated). I will post changes here when we push new builds. The source for the latest RC build is available on the proton_9.0-rc branch in this repository. This branch may be force pushed.

We are interested only in issues that are new to the 9.0-2 RC builds. If you believe that something broke please confirm that the problem does not occur with 9.0-1 (the "none" beta branch) before reporting it here.

The changelog is tentative - it has not yet been verified by our QA staff, and can change before the final release as we add or remove features during RC testing.

All of the fixes listed below were deployed previously via Proton Experimental or Proton Hotfix. Appropriate Proton version was used automatically on a game basis on the Steam Decks. This release stabilizes those changes after extensive testing.

Limited number of cores seen by the following games making them playable on a high core count CPUs:

- Command & Conquer and The Covert Operations
Fixed Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West displaying a warning about outdated drivers with Nvidia GPUs.
Fixed The Finals crashing on launch after a recent game update.
Fixed The Finals wrongly detecting button mashing.
Fixed The Finals not working on machines supporting AVX512 without clearcpuid=304 in the kernel command line.
Fixed Apex Legends not starting after a recent game update.
Fixed Tekken 8 reporting wrong connection type if both WiFi and Ethernet are present.
Fixed Ubisoft Launcher not starting games with a fresh Proton prefix.

Fixed Nightingale not being able to authenticate with Steam on desktop.
Fixed Bloons Monkey City thinking it's offline with IPv6 support disabled.
Fixed Ubisoft Launcher asking for serial number on the first launch of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Fixed Descent 3 not working in GL mode.

RC2 and RC3 builds have been published shortly after one another. RC2 contains a fix for a possible DXVK crash, RC3 additionally contains a fix for a Battle.net installer crash.

Diablo 4 is crashing after long play with RC. No problem with normal Proton 9. I played long time with normal Proton 9, then i switch to RC and crashing is started. I play like 1 week like that. Then i switch back to normal Proton 9 and all are super fine. Absolute no crash and no bugged textures with Bazzite distro. 4K 60FPS no DLSS or FSR. Just to know. Wayland is the key for D4.

Hello @deathxxx123, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)

@deathxxx123 I'd like to look into this. How long would you say it takes for you to get a crash? That way I can make sure I am spending a similar amount of time testing.
