Can you post a save game from around the point with the missing lip sync please.
It's quite literally all of it. From the moment GMan starts talking. On playing for a little longer it looks like the mouth animations are missing or skipping frames and it's evident on all characters; the random C17 citizens, Breen, Alyx...
I did also notice it on the Fisherman in Lost Coast but he sounds like he's bugged across the board anyway, according to other reports (#541).
I noticed issues with the lip syncing seeming wooden back when they first updated to the Orange Box engine in 2010, but without a way to roll the game back, there was no way to know for sure. I guess what we really need is another opt-in "beta" that restores the Source 2006 version so those of us who are so inclined can go back and see what it was really like.
Issue is still present in the latest version.
@jorgenpt You're assigned to this. What's your progress on it?
@Yetoo1, please stop pinging devs over assignments that were handed out 8 years ago.
Something about the lip syncing isn't right. The mouths move in a more anime fashion than Source fashion. A particular stand out moment is when Barney says "board the express to Nova Prospekt" - he's supposed to smirk a little bit as he looks round at out but he just doesn't. Doctor Breen when he assures you that "[City 17] is safer" also looks very wooden.
I played through the NON-STEAMPIPE Windows version briefly and was very much able to detect Breen and Barney's smirking, but it just didn't happen on Linux. Something has happened in transferring the lip syncing to the new version of Source, I'm not sure what but it's very noticeable given the amount of effort put into making the realistic faces in Half-Life 2.
