Hello @memmam, if Steam was kicked out from underneath of the game, then it might make more sense to run this past Steam Support.
Not sure how I'd send them the crash dumps. Can I just link the GitHub issue when I create the Steam Support ticket since they're already uploaded here? (Edit: disregard, support ticket has been made)
I also feel like the timing (immediately during a complex NPC/physics/weapon interaction) makes the initial cause suspect, which is why I reported it here to begin with.
System information:
On the map d3_c17_05, there is a building where you go up several sets of stairs to find a closet, within which is a headcrab zombie ambush, and to your left, a room with a TV playing a Breencast and another headcrab zombie ambush. After killing the headcrab zombie in the closet, I went into the room on the left, the zombie shoved a large prop (a set of shelves) at me, and then almost immediately after the game crashed and Steam silently exited (meaning it likely also crashed). The game crashed the moment I went to fire at the Zombie with the SMG; I do not recall if I had begun shooting or not by the time the game crashed, so this may not be relevant. I am unsure why the game crashed, nor can I replicate this crash. I am including the relevant .dmp file.
crash_hl2.exe_20241128165759_1.dmp
Edit: Upon reviewing things, I also noticed a crash dump for Steam itself, occuring immediately prior to the Half-life 2 crash dump, as well as two further dumps related to the Steam Overlay. This may not be entirely a Source Engine issue. The additional .dmp files are below:
crash_steam.exe_20241128165743_1.dmp
assert_gameoverlayui.exe_20241128165746_2.dmp
crash_gameoverlayui.exe_20241128165804_2.dmp
If it helps, the dumps were created in the following order:
Steam.exe crash dump created at 4:57:43 PM Overlay assert dump created at 4:57:46 PM Half-Life 2 crash dump created at 4:57:59 PM Overlay crash dump created at 4:58:04 PM
