Keybinding keys are not visible #1680

Closed boustrophedon closed 6 years ago

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large pastes as a Github Gist.

Downloaded the new csgo update on linux. I was looking through the settings because there were reports on reddit that many settings were reset.

The keybindings are invisible i.e. you can't see which key is bound to each action. https://i.imgur.com/gtt26cO.jpg

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Update to 7/6 update on linux.
  2. Open keyboard/mouse settings
  3. Observe that you cannot see which key is bound to each action. See image.
  4. Try to rebind a key and see that it still works on the new key, but the key is still not visible.

having a similar problem (see the screenshot below). It doesn't just look glitched, but the game also crashes, when I access the settings via the main menu, or when I scroll down a bit when I open the settings in-game (as in the screenshot).

Looks like this leads to a related crash on my system in scaleformui_client.so. crash_20180706201408_1.dmp.tar.gz

Crashed after clicking K/B settings (Ubuntu MATE 18.04, cs_CZ.UTF-8 locale): crash_20180707001752_1.dmp.gz

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

I can't be sure, but I seemed to not have the game crash when I unplugged my joystick. I can't find any crash dumps to attach though and have been completely unable to Google how to get a dump from CS:GO.

LDD19 commented 6 years ago

My game crashes if I try to open the Keyboard/Mouse settings tab, somehow all my settings got reset too.

ericek111 commented 6 years ago

Maybe related to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/1649 as stated here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/8x1p8m/csgo_crashes_and_bugs_since_latest_update_last/

LDD19 commented 6 years ago

Adding a -language schinese flag in the launch options does not crash the game anymore. The crash might be caused by a locale issue. Switching back to English didn't crash my game anymore.

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

My game doesn't crash after setting the language to Chinese Simplified, but it again crashes after setting it back to English.

BenJetson commented 6 years ago

This issue is occurring on my system as well. When I click on "Keyboard/Mouse Settings" the game crashes. Other settings panes open just fine: it's only the Keyboard/Mouse Settings panel that causes the crash. Hopefully this can be resolved easily; the default keybindings do work for me, but there's a few I'd like to change.

My system runs Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers installed. My locale is English (United States), since that oddly seems to be affecting this bug.

I'd attach a crash dump, but couldn't find one. If a crash dump or additional testing would be helpful to identify and solve this bug, please let me know -- I'm happy to help in whatever way I can.

GreatBigWhiteWorld commented 6 years ago

Yes, it is crashing as soon as I click keyboard/mouse settings. Is it related to certain languages?

hypothermic commented 6 years ago

Same issue here: crash when opening "Keyboard/Mouse" settings window. Latest update, no panorama. System information gist.

dreimer1988 commented 6 years ago

I found a fix people :)

-open up steam -go to your library -on the left side in the list of your games, right-click on csgo -select "properties" -under "General" click on "Set Launch Options" -add the following: -panorama

thats it, enjoy :)

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

Yeah, how about no. Panorama currently has a bug where I get no mouse pointer on the community server browser. That's a game stopper for me.

boustrophedon commented 6 years ago

@stephenangelico that bug has existed for me in the scaleform UI as well. In the community server browser in panorama, I don't have the mouse pointer immediately but if I click the mouse several times it appears.

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

I couldn't get it to work in Panorama. Right now it's just plain annoying to connect to a LAN or community server.

boustrophedon commented 6 years ago

=/ You can always use the console if you have the address but yeah that's annoying. I have to move the mouse and rapidly click for the cursor to appear - it might have something to do with interacting with one of the UI elements.

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

Tried the console too - I just get a blank loading screen and nothing else. But that's a bug for another report.

hypothermic commented 6 years ago

Yeah, would love to have this bug fixed. Not moving on to panorama soon because of personal preference.

boustrophedon commented 6 years ago

@hypothermic valve said panorama will be enabled for everyone by the end of July. so in valve time that might mean you have two more months of scaleform ui, but you should probably consider changing sooner rather than later.

dreimer1988 commented 6 years ago

well, why not changing the keybindings in panorama and then changing back?

stephenangelico commented 6 years ago

I tried Panorama tonight and it wouldn't even launch. Really hard to try beta stuff if it just crashes on startup.

LDD19 commented 6 years ago

Adding a -language schinese launch flag, lauching the game, then relaunching the game without the flag fixed the crashing issues for me. I can actually open and edit the settings now without having my game crash. However they are still displaying random unicode characters.

boustrophedon commented 6 years ago

This probably can be closed now that panorama is the default. It does not occur for me in panorama.

Closing per the last comment.
