I've recently been having this problem with steam after my wifi hotspot started to die on me, causing my computer to disconnect from the hotspot every few hours. However, even after reconnecting, steam still does not come back online and stays in offline mode.

Distro: Arch Linux (laptop) Network card driver: iwlwifi, managed by wicd How to reproduce: Start steam, then take your network down. Restart the network and connect back to it. Steam will not connect back (tested up to 4 hours).

I have the same problem in both the steam and linux versions, and even if my actual connection is fine. Steam drops connection and never reconnects but always connects right away when i restart steam. Dies anytime between a minute and an hour after restarting steam. I know my connection is fine since it often happens while in-game and other people are running around.

On linux it is exactly since the dec 3 update, both in stable and beta. On windows it's since longer ago but i'm running that in wine so that one might be due to something else.
