The 4DN + BINA Tiered System of Microscopy Metadata Guidelines was developed by the 4DN Imaging Standards Working Group in collaboration with the BINA Data Management and Quality Control Working Group (https://www.bioimagingna.org/qc-dm-wg) for documenting microscopy experiments and assessing the quality of image data.
Justification for the addition (brief and compelling):
This proposed change arose from a discussion with Roland Nitschke
It was brought to our attention that the current model does not correctly capture common situations.
Specific issues encountered:
1) The name MechanicalStage appears to be misleading because people may not include a MotorizedStage to be part of this group. Might be a better idea to have three explicit types:
Piezo
Manual
Motorized
2) A StageInsert might be used for Focusing (only Z-movement) and be motorized and/or piezoelectric (this was actually the way we had the model in v01-07 so take a look at that version)
Full description of the proposed addition (enough detail to implement):
The actual changes will be discussed in an ad hoc meeting with different stakeholders including members of the QUAREP-LiMi WG on sample positioning calibration
