I would limit it to once a year, and artifacts are no part of the game yet, afaik.
I'm pretty sure someone mentioned we are planning on adding a system, or there is already a mod for artifacts we can use. I only say half a year because in ck3's current state there isn't much to do...hopefully if someone picks this up, it will be in the form of a whole new tab and a new gui and it will be a lot more in depth
There are a couple mods working on that, true (https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=1158310&searchtext=artifact&childpublishedfileid=0&browsesort=textsearch§ion=items) but none in our mod so far, afaik.
Hey! Just wanted to put this here, I had a similar idea to you where instead of having a decision for a quest, every 5 years (The same time you have to wait between feasts or hunts in the base game) you can choose to "Adventure".
Choosing to Adventure would first give you a choice of what kind of adventure to take. Different types of adventures provide different possible rewards, from gold and prestige to opinion bonuses with your neighbors and long-term buffs (Meaning several years in duration). After you choose what kind of adventure to go on (Explore uncharted lands, clear out a dungeon, or delve into an ancient ruin), you're faced with 4-6 prompts (2-3 choices of how to proceed, 2-3 skill challenges). If you succeed in the skill challenges presented to you, you reach the finale prompt which offers you your reward.
I'll be writing up some possible flavor text and tree diagrams as preliminary planning between other work.
Ya I think this sounds good, I would make the cooldown smaller and give a larger variety of quests. The ideas given in dev chat by Rob were good, there are three types of quests or adventures and they would pop up in the UI with their rareness based of off tier so:
Normal Quests: 5 - 7 months Special Quests: 1 - 3 years Legendary Quests: 5 - 10 years
Also starting/choosing a quest would be in the form of a menu, the things that happen/choices you have to make will be through decisions.
The quest system could be updated down the line to be like the "council tab", but I was thinking of a "Quest Available" decision for now, where every 6 - 12 months you can choose to either send one of your champions or go a quest yourself.
If sending a champion: High chance of gaining prowess Medium chance of getting injured depending on the prowess Low chance of getting killed depending on the prowess Very low chance of finding an artifact
If going yourself You will "be away", like pilgrimage decision High chance of gaining a point in martial, learning etc. (depending on your class) Medium chance of gaining gold Low chance of getting an artifact The chance of being injured or dying depends on the skill level our the class
