Aligning campaign and skirmish research options #4055

Hello everyone, I just finished the campaign with 4.5.2 and I noticed that research works differently. In particular, I noticed that the obsolescence filter works in a pretty different way as well as a few techs missing from either side.

Skirmish:

Campaign:

Thank you very much!

Campaign (remastered and classic) and skirmish have different balances from each other. In campaign, as an example, you get Heavy Cannon well before HVC or AC and reworking Alpha and Beta to match skirmish wouldn't be worth the effort for the same result.

For the earlier turrets introduced in Remastered for MGs and flamer, yeah, that would make sense for skirmish. Never made sense to give the player HMG before the weaker MGs. The early game is based around the damage the HMG tower does though, so something would need to be adapted for that. Introducing a Lancer Bunker would put the regulars in a coma unless a Cannon variant was added too.

Skirmish indeed has a few new components. It would be a cool original campaign mod idea for someone to pursue. Remastered aimed to try to keep the same components so as to retain a familiar feel with the original so we didn't have a need to add anything unless necessary (the 3 new Beta cyborgs, for example).

I understand your reasoning, although I still would appreciate the missing defensive structures in skirmish and the flamer range boost. TBH since vanilla days I always found early progression lacking finesse, especially in missiles. The new Sarissa helps a lot to balance although personally I'd have added a twin mini rocket in the middle as well...

Whilst a unified tech tree would make transition between Campaign and Multiplayer much easier, simply put PvE (Campaign) and PvP (Multiplayer/Skirmish) have very different progressions from each other and therefore require tech tree(s) to be tailored as such.
