shapechange: okay forgive me for basing this on a mafia role but it's a really interesting one. it's called "caretaker" and it investigates a player each night (probs FT style for us but could be AT style), but it doesn't learn the results - someone random does. i.e i could investigate ts the direwolf, and vera could get told "caretaker investigated ts and saw him as direwolf", but I wouldn't know the investigation result or who got it. anyway i think it's cool

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: (caretaker actually also protects the person it investigates but i see no reason to translate that)

MrrFiish commented 1 month ago

I think RNG would have massive potential to just own the caretaker if literally all of their info goes to scum, is it a random good player or do you just have to cry if every single one goes to a scum? If it can go to scum, maybe making it weighted random or not letting it happen twice in a row or something would be good?

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: with werewolves, we usually do arbitrary instead of random

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: obviously in maf there's a much higher town ratio, but in wwr there's much more info and ways to disprove what someone's saying - i think it balances out

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: and, like i said - arbitrary

12Metatron commented 1 month ago

any ideas on the new name

MrrFiish commented 1 month ago

Fisherman (coming 2026!)

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: what about, say, judge

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: jk

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: idk

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

captainluffy: btw i think u forgot to tag this one

MrrFiish commented 1 month ago

I mean, caretaker is a fine name if you aren't afraid of just copying.

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

mrrfiish: oh this is where the channel is, i couldnt find it so i was just gitting my hub

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

captainluffy: didnt know you had a github

what if we do something similar to PP, so you have a list of players (1/3 most likely) and it's chosen from that list, once everyone on the list is dead you can no longer invest, but it also has at least 1 of each team member on it?

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: that seems a bit overcomplicated

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

e_thsn: I was thinking it would make it slightly easier to deduce who got the result but add a downside

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

e_thsn: there's possibly other ways to do that though

MrrFiish commented 1 month ago

I actually do really like ethans idea there.

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

mctsts: i hat randomness

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

this is a classic wwr role overengineering suggestion

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: suggestion: instead of going to an arbitrary player, the info goes to a random cit

i like this idea bc it makes the game more engaging for cits and it prompts more public discussion

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

mctsts: This is much better but does have the issue that it encourages us to use more citizen than we otherwise might

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

mctsts: Maybe random tm?

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

shapechange: yeah maybe

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

venomousbirds: random tm could work

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

venomousbirds: i can see how this might be an easy way to prove people tho

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

venomousbirds: but it can definitely be faked early game too

CrowdfordBot commented 1 month ago

e_thsn: Random TM/WM that way you can't guarantee a townsfolk got it maybe

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

e_thsn: Where we at on this <@458727748504911884>

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: i am swamped with work rn but i think we're on a viable path with it

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: i can do it dw

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

e_thsn: cool

shapechange: [Placeholder] | Townsfolk Investigative Basics Each night, the [Placeholder] may investigate one player. The result will be sent to another player. Details The [Placeholder] inspects a player's role each night. Inspecting a player is an immediate ability affected by weak disguises and redirections. The results of the [Placeholder]'s investigation will be sent to a random player with a Miscellaneous role at the start of the day. This will happen even if the [Placeholder] dies during the night. The player will receive the name of the investigated player and their role, but not the name of the [Placeholder].

[Placeholder] | Townsfolk Investigative Basics Each night, the [Placeholder] may check a target to determine if they are a "threat" or "not a threat". The result will be sent to another player. Details The [Placeholder] checks whether a player is a threat or not. Lycans and players with killing roles are classified as threats. Inspecting a player in this way is an immediate ability affected by strong disguises and redirections. The results of the [Placeholder]'s investigation will be sent to a random player with a miscellaneous role at the start of the day. This will happen even if the [Placeholder] dies during the night. The player will receive the name of the investigated player and whether or not they appeared as a threat, but not the name of the [Placeholder].

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: i did one for FT style and AT style. i think i actually prefer AT style

what about calling it mind reader?

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: that makes no sense and also sucks

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: fisherman (coming 2026!)

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: <@458727748504911884> cat lady

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: TRUST

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: cats wander and stuff... if theyre an outdoor cat...

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: and its a towny name

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: kind of real actually

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

mrrfiish: i think it works 🐟

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: i like it but it is a little informal

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: i think something that draws on themes of gossip and/or 'poison pen' letter writers could work

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: or we could just reuse Bard or smth

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

e_thsn: What about maybe something to do with spies?

CrowdfordBot commented 1 week ago

shapechange: doesn't really fit with a lot of our role name theming
