Added legal splash screen #43

Closed jdngray77 closed 3 years ago

Adds a splash screen containing legal lines and logos that, to the best of my ability, match the guidelines and requirements. It is only visible on built copies, and replaces the default unity splash screen.

For accuracy and ease, It was produced in a Pages document. For use it was exported to PDF, and exported again to PNG. I will post the un exported copy on the Google Drive.

This change merged with WIP inventory branch shows what it would look like:

Torte

Capture d’écran 2021-01-14 à 11 24 29 PM I made this part up. I thought it was a nice touch. The current image is not the cannon final logo, it was taken from the Discord and is expected to be changed.

Font

Despite some talk, we don't currently have a chosen typeface. All custom text is in Helvetica Neue, 23pt for the title and 14pt for the text body.

This could easily be changed out in the un-exported version if we settle on a different typeface later.

The use of ™

Whilst we don't have a registered trademark, the use of ™ on our IP is proper.

It notifies of the name being a mark we trade with, but holds no legal ramifications to anyone who wishes to use it, or trade with it themselves. That could only be achieved with a registered trademark, indicated by the ® symbol, which we will likely never get approval for since 'torte' is a type of cake; not something we created or own.

Unity Logo

Legals

I cannot find a definitive requirement to include any unity logo, and whilst the provided option to remove it with a pro licence suggests that it may be removed, i'm still under the belief that it's safer to include it, and given we are permitted to i don't see any reason against.

  1. Licenses are mixed, we don't hold a studio license of any sort. This puts me at unease about using my license to remove it.
  2. The ToS and Logo guidelines respectively state:
    • You may use Unity Wordmarks in all manner of published materials, digital and otherwise, provided that your use is consistent with all of the following and otherwise complies with these Guidelines...
    • Unity Logos and their uses that do not require separate permission

Design guidelines

The logo was sourced from the official Unity Logo Assets archive.

The image used was un-modified, and meets the clear space requirement of at minimum the entire height of the cube on all sides. CS

Wwise logo

Wwise credit is not enforced, but encouraged with the persistant use of the keyword should. The image was sourced from the Credit Page, which also sets out the format of the legal line for wwise (#Line 3.)

The image was, again, un-modified, and follows the official Audiokinetic guidence for clear space. Capture d’écran 2021-01-14 à 11 26 04 PM

Legal lines

Line 1

Capture d’écran 2021-01-14 à 11 24 21 PM

© 2020 - 2021

The copywrite range is from the year of the IP's first creation, to the projected release year. This may be updated in subsequent releases, which will renew the copywrite.

Trademark

As mentioned earlier, whilst it's not registered, the working name Torte is indeed a proper trademark of our studio.

Line 2

Capture d’écran 2021-01-14 à 11 24 17 PM I could not find any guidance for a legal line from Unity, however i took the names directly from the official logo guidance document so that they're exactly the names and stylisation that Unity holds these logos to be known as, and followed formatting used in tripple A games.

Line 3

Capture d’écran 2021-01-14 à 11 24 25 PM Line three is held to the most restriction, but since it's provided it's the easiest to validate. It's a direct port of the legal line provided within the credit guidence document, which states:

  • this legal mention is mandatory in a size no smaller than 6 points.

  • the legal credit line should read: Powered by Wwise © 2006 – 2016* Audiokinetic Inc. All rights reserved.

* The last year should be the year the Licensee Developed Game is released.

This is so well thought out and the documentation answered every question I had and more. As always, I'm impressed as heck. To quote Tallz, "Approved".
