Open mwjohnston3142 opened 4 years ago

mwjohnston3142 commented 4 years ago

I just downloaded fedora31 for WSL2. How do I configure with x410 and how do I configure to duplicate the screen shots?

thanks

crramirez commented 4 years ago

Hello,

You only need to be sure that the option Allow Public access in X410 is enabled:

wsl2-x410-tray-icon-allow-public-access-menu-v282

Here is the complete guide: https://x410.dev/cookbook/wsl/using-x410-with-wsl2/ most of it is already pre-configured in Fedora Remix.

I don't understand what you mean with duplicated screen shots.

Regards, Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for responding.

I have x410 configured as shown below.

I installed the Fedora Remix from the Microsoft Store.

The third screen shot on the web page

https://www.whitewaterfoundry.com/fedora-remix-for-wsl

shows a gui editor running.

How do I start the Fedora Desktop? How do I start the editor shown in the screen shot?

I installed gvim.

I tried various values for the DISPLAY environment variable value

I installed and tried nc for testing the connection to the X server

Nothing gives me a window on the x410 desktop.

I need some guidance or a how to for dummies page.

Thanks

Mike Jl

Hello,

You don't need to do anything in Fedora Remix in order to work with X410 or any other server. Reinstall it from the store and be sure that Allow Public access is enabled in X410:

image

To start the editor shown in the screenshot:

sudo dnf install -y gedit
gedit

To install Fedora Desktop follow this guide:

Installing MATE in Fedora Remix

These instructions assume that you have just installed Fedora Remix, and the users have been created.

Install MATE

sudo dnf -y update
sudo dnf -y group install "mate-desktop" --skip-broken

Setting up dbus daemon

echo -e '\neval "$(timeout 2s dbus-launch --auto-syntax)"'>>~/.bashrc
source ~/.bashrc

Running MATE

Run your preferred server in desktop mode. In the case of X410: x410.exe /desktop image

mate-session

The x410 desktop is translucent. I don’t know if that matters.

When I enter mate-session I get the following

mate-session

Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

(mate-session:130): WARNING : 10:53:25.406: Cannot open display:

[mwjoh@MikesLaptop ~]$ echo $DISPLAY

[mwjoh@MikesLaptop ~]$ nc -v 172.31.208.1 6000

Ncat: Version 7.80 ( https://nmap.org/ncat )

Ncat: TIMEOUT.

Nothing changes in the desktop

There is an IP address in x410 title bar

Thanks
