[Feature Request] Compatibility with PDFs opened in browser #1194

It would be great if Memex features worked on PDFs opened in the browser. This would consolidate bookmarking and notetaking for two of the primary sources of digital text information (i.e., the web and PDFs).

This feature request has been made before here but this was a long time ago so I am re-requesting. Also, this feature was a work-in-progress shortly after the old feature request but based on the comment here the Memex backend has changed significantly since then, so one might not be able to simply start where this prior work left off.

I see there were speculations earlier about whether it could be done, and how etc.. Hypothes.is already has this working - so for sure it is possible. (Anyone picking this up again - I suggest checking out how they did it).

It works really neat. An extra cool thing is that they can work on local PDFs (as long as they are opened with the browser) and then they assign a unique ID to the file somehow. This means that people can share comments and collaborate also on PDFs that they don't have shared access to somewhere online. Based on their identical local copies.

Besides that, I fully agree. Annotations on PDFs is the last "leg" to consolidate the major information sources and distribution methods.

This is launching in a few days :)

Even works collaboratively!
