Bug 440027 - Wayland crashes after login #80

To your repo mixup-theorie, i executed the following

is the testing repo interfering somehow?

Same versions as on my PC... And still I can't reproduce this bug. You could install debug packages and try to reproduce this bug again - backtrace will be more specific. Command: sudo dnf debuginfo-install kwin kwin-libs kwin-wayland.

installed the files, but even after reboot, where do i find more output than in coredumps?

Just installed qt5-qtwayland-5.15.2-14 from updates-testing - no crashes.

You can run coredumpctl debug 3148 - that command will start gdb (or 3601 for example), then type bt full in gdb prompt, and you'll see verbose backtrace.

one very interesting thing:

i have a 4K monitor connected via displayport, the same monitor is display for two machines, laptop and m910x. I just reproduced this very odd behaviour: When i connect the monitor to m910x machine, then try to log in, then i see the background, but no widgets, a short time later, the session crashes. So, to get to the coredump, i have a ssh session open tho m910x - i switched the monitor to the laptop, while m910x was still in the try and crash loop.

Then, after some wait, i connected the monitor back to m910x - and: surprisingly, the kwin desktop was here having also a menubar, time was displayed, looking quite nice. But, one second into this, it crashes again and the desktop never comes up again.

Repeat the whole thing: monito to m910x, log in, let it crash, disconnect monitor, wait, reconnect and - voila - menubar on the desktop. And crashing immediately after ~1 sec

(i never tried a different screen on this machine, maybe i have a dp-to dvi cable somewhere to use a non-4k monitor?)

ok, found a cable hdmi-dvi, using a 1280x1024 monitor

Still the same, crashes at login (i see background, then it crashes, then vconsole text, then background again... until it gives up) X11... no problem

Well, you should try now to disable my repo completly and revert back to official F34 KDE packages. In official repo plasma & kwin versions are the same, but KF5 libs and KDE gear (apps) versions will be lower.

You could do it with this command: sudo dnf copr disable zawertun/kde && sudo dnf distro-sync and reboot afterwards. If after reboot bug in Wayland will persists - it's definitely something wrong with kwin_wayland.

this seems to be true:

downgraded as you described, reboot (just to be safe), login... same thing, background is drawn, crash (still with my old 1280x1024 monitor) But, this time i have seen a popup in the lower left corner of the screen indicating sth. about RPC bind, then crash, then again background, no menubar/widget, but popup (very quickly, it seemed to be the crash notifier). And... the loop continues until it gives up

maybe we can install plasma debug files? (i reverted the debug files from above) My assumption is plasma could crash first, and kwin will follow - will those debug infos help? This is based on the theory, that the popups were drawn correctly, incl. animation, and this is plasmas task?

You could install all debug packages for kwin & plasma in 1 command: sudo dnf debuginfo-install kwin\* plasma\* But beware that debuginfo will take decent amount of space.

And double check that there is no more packages from my repo: dnf list installed | grep @copr:copr.fedorainfracloud.org:zawertun:kde.

while we are into this, time for sth. completely different? I have another problem with a feodra machine upgraded from fc32 via fc33 to fc34. Here (x11), the default color theme is dark (it was light before) after logging in, and switching this to light is ok for the time being, but not persisted after a logout/login. Then i have a mixup of dark/light colors, until i select dark-theme and light theme again. I don't like dark theme, and this is the first machine where sth like this happens. For example, the m910x from above does not show this theme related problem.
