How do I merge two zettelkasten files? #181

I have made the mistake of creating a separate Zettelkasten file for each one of my research topics. Each file contains a couple of hundred notes. Now I want to merge them, so that I have all my notes in one file. Is that possible? If yes, how?

To merge Z1 and Z2:

  1. Backup Zettelkasten files.
  2. Open Z1
  3. File / Export --> Export all notes
  4. Follow the steps shown on Export Data form:
    • Choose Zettelkasten (ZKN3)(.zkx3) file type.
    • Choose destination directory and enter filename (e.g. temp.zkx3).
    • Finish
  5. Close Z1.
  6. Open Z2.
  7. File / Import
  8. Follow the steps shown on Import data form:
    • Choose Zettelkasten (ZKN3)(.zkx3).
    • Select the previously exported .zkx3file (e.g. temp.zkx3).
    • tag I would like to ...append the imported data to the opened data file.
    • Finish
  9. Now you should see all Z1 items at the end of the Z2 Title list.
