Forgot to mention that when outputting 720p, the scaling is correct.

1. is the picture itself stretched or distorted? since there are only part of
it displayed.
→ I doubt from your snapshot. so the aspect ratio is OK.
2. would you please explain "2. Set your Mac to output 1080p video", I have no
TV to examine this issue. How to set? is there any differences with setting a
monitor ?

No, the aspect ratio is okay, but the picture doesn't fit the screen. My
desktop does fit the screen perfectly, so it's probably an issue in MPX.
So, you set it as you would set the resolution on an external monitor (through
the Display preference pane). Only here you can select the options: 720i, 720p,
1080i & 1080p.
If you need any additional info, let me know! I'm really hoping to see this
fixed, since it's a shame I can't output the full 1080p on my screen..

Any thoughts/updates on this issue? Sorry for bumping, but I'd like to know if
there's something I can do to help ;) Thanks

Not yet, I have re-read, I think I have something to confirm,
1. The issue happened in fullscreen or window mode?
2. The TV works as the secondary external monitor?
Since you are using a notebook right?
3. If the answer of 2. Is yes, then TV works as the extension of the desktop,
or the mirror of your main display?
4. Would you please upload a snapshot of how you are setting the resolution, I
need some concrete idea of how it is working.
Your help will be appreciated. Thx

1. The issue happens only in full-screen and only in MPX. Quicktime is okay.
2. The TV works as an external monitor, as a mirror of the main display.
See the screenshots for more info on how the resolution is set and the effect.

I noticed there is a "Usable resolutioin 1680*1050" in the first screenshot,
is the TV fullHD, or the comment above means the max resolution of the TV is
1680*1050, but it could be configured as 1080P.
Is there an option in the list, with the resolution 1680*1050?
if has, would you please tried to set to that resolution, and then full screen,
to see whether it is just fit the screen.
if so, I think it is a system bug, since I use the system API to implement the
fullscreen.

Yes, that's because the maximum resolution of my screen (the laptop) is
1680x1050, so that's the max it will be able to output to the external monitor
(the TV).
The TV is full HD, yes.
I'll try that, but it doesn't explain why my desktop fits the screen fine (as
you can see from the screenshots)..

I may get the point.
Since TV mirrors Desktop, actually the resolution is configured as 1680*1050
for TV, apparently.
but When going to fullscreen, the API I used get the resolution is 1080P, the
physical resolution of TV.
I will look up if there are any alternative methods.

This seems to still be happening :(
Is there anyway to fix this problem as this media play is the best one i've
seen and I only watch things through my TV?

I have bought my SONY bravia, bravo!
but unfortunately, I can't reproduce the issue you met. :(
are you using, VGA? HDMI? to connect to TV?

Does your TV support DisplayPort? or converted to VGA, HDMI?

Haha, congrats on your new Sony set :) Are you satisfied with it?
To answer your question:
My TV supports HDMI. So I'm using an adapter to convert my miniDisplayPort (on
my MBP) to HDMI.

1080P inside of TV in living room, is just different 1080P inside of a MacBook
Pro in working room.
also, actually I found some settings on the TV side which could handle the
coming picture as actual size, fit in screen, fill screen, stretch,... ..., I
think may your set also have such kind of settings.

Yes, it does have these settings. But that doesn't explain the fact that the
issue is not present when using Quicktime with the exact same settings..

Yes, in Quicktime works fine, I just verified that. But I get the exact same as
the screenshots above. Desktop and all windows work fine. If I open another app
and do a fullscreen for it, it fills the screen just fine (Quiktime too, for
instance)... but with MplayerX, it goes beyond the screen.

Just came here to say I also have the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro
over HDMI. Every other program works fine at fullscreen (ie. VLC, etc) except
MPX. If it makes a difference, have a Samsung LN46A650

I'm starting to think that this is a problem with OS X, this seems to be
happening on Boxee and XBMC when you enter full screen, not tried plex yet but
reckon it might. Strange if your in full screen mode before you connect to your
TV it keeps the right scaling.

I just updated MplayerX on Version 1.0.8 (1367) since then I have exactly the
same problem (My mkv collection MDP->HDMi with 1080p setting > randon samsung
fullhdtv) like guys over there. I have Lion 10.7.1 (mba). But I m not sure
where is the problem - in MplayerX (probably becouse VLC, QT etc. work well in
fullscreen mode) or in the MAC os itself. I just dont understand what this is
happening but I m glad I m not alone with this video-burden :/

Hi, I am so sorry that tried on my box.
and I set the exactly same settings with Lorenzo
1. change the main desktop to the TV.
2. set TV resolution to 1080P
3. change the Mac display resolution from 1920*1200, ... -> 1024*768
None of these setting bugged.

Just reinstall the program (with cleanmymac etc.) connect HDMI(MDP) and set
1080p mirroring - works for me everytime whenever I have that problem.

@captain,
Do you mean to delete it completely and install it again? I am really curious that how it could fix it?
By deleting it, do you mean also delete the preference file, org.niltsh.MPlayerX.plist in ~/Preferences/ ?

I've also noticed this issue, but I just wanted to note that I have a Benq
projector which I use at the same resolution as my laptop (1440x900). So I
don't think that the issue is caused by the mirroring resolution being higher
than the laptop's maximum screen resolution.
