Showing interesting places along the trip that passenger can see from the bus, and for each bus stop showing the interesting places passenger wants for shopping, eat and walk. As you mentioned before half a mile around the passenger.

The idea of points of interest around the bus stop was discussed. Five miles might be too far as some people particularly the elderly might not be walking too far other than around the town. However, some might be keener walkers so including such points of interest but making the distance clear is an option as is asking the user how far away from the stop they are interested in.
