Should releases be checked in? #21

Currently since releases are tarred, it is bothersome to diagnose issues with said releases. Tags are not reliable, or not reliable just yet. There is no mechanical assurance that a release tagged x is actually on tag x. Maybe a utility to just download, untar and howl a release would be enough.

Not as important now because, although not automated yet, the release process is fairly baked.
