Sorry, can't open PSD files in Brackets yet :) (If you saw the PSD Lens demo, that was just a prototype that isn't released yet.) We already have a backlog item to fix the fact that we show gibberish when opening binary files: https://trello.com/c/G820G8E9 - closing as move to backlog.
even i cant see the PSD preview . Please tell me how to fix . I love that feature .
@angryamerr21 Please see the response immediately above your comment :-)
disappointing
Just saw the video you made njx. Awesome work. Will wait for the final release. Thanks in advanced for this time saving feature.
When will be ready the option for open PSD?
@scarnago Please see the response from @njx at the top of this thread
Updated title
Are you kidding ? Showing "PSD Lens demo" and saying after that you cannot deliver because "show gibberish when opening binary files" is simply a way to fool people with false advertising ... Nobody vote for that card #24 and it seem you don't care to fix since one year, using it as a pretext. If you don't have Adobe authorization to open .psd files, just say it ... I have spent 4 hour learning the tool, hoping to do something with .psd files at first place ... But i really regret for ... Bracket-Photoshop .psd combination is the priority to go ... without that, i don't really see the difference with textEdit.app + google chrome tools.
regards,
@cbdiesse - sorry, did you see something somewhere that said the PSD Lens demo was anything but an experimental prototype? If so, please send us the link and we'll make sure it gets labelled properly. Thanks.
@njx - Please, don't confuse me ... I am just pointing that: if PSD lens support is not actually release in bracket, it's not for technical issues, but mainly because you don't have Adobe final authorization ... You have to be very clear in the way you communicate with the community, and if I am wrong it will be great to publish the "PSD lens support" schedule.
Looking at Adobe website, you can see that Adobe Edge Code CC, the bracket commercial version (free for Creative Cloud registered users), is going to offer that, if not already done. Please, readjust your communication and refer people to the right place, if they want that function now... i.e. "Adobe Edge Code". It's what I am trying to figure out now (Edge code or not Edge code? Creative Cloud or Creative CS6 standalone license?). You can see how much we are already confused by the products offering at Adobe place ...
So, apology for the wrong doing (generated by that demo), instead of asking me to prove that ... there are many disappointed people out there, that don't want to loose their times and energy on empty promises.
So ... Just keep the technical good job ... Thanks.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to confuse you. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something out there that said this was an implemented feature in Brackets or Edge Code, since it's not. We don't have a timetable for releasing it yet, but we'll definitely let everyone know once we do, since lots of people are asking for it :)
It would be wise to remove it from the four main features on the Brackets website. It is very very very dissapointing when you find out this still isn't available.
Thanks. I actually wasn't aware that it was there, and I can see that it might be confusing. I'll raise this with the appropriate folks.
@jadbox We should update brackets.io
Not sure if related, but when I open (or even just select) a PSD, Brackets crashes (the infamous "...has stopped working" window appears). The PSD in question is about 380MB in size and was saved from CS5, non-maximized.
This PSD lens feature has been demoed approx one year ago, and it is still not available. This is the ONLY feature you can offer that will actually make professional developers switch to your tool. To demo this feature so early, and still not have it available, is extremely disappointing. With every new project, I keep looking to see if this feature has been implemented yet. -1, Adobe.
@robr24 Not all “professional developers” use Photoshop.
@robr24 You can do this using Project Parfait which was announced yesterday. Enjoy!
Hey @robr24, after a bit of a delay, we've started work on the "PSD Lens" feature you mentioned. In fact we're leveraging a lot of the work that the above-mentioned Project Parfait has done.
I don't have a specific timeline on a release, but we're planning to definitely do an early public beta as well as a slightly smaller private beta to help us iron out any issues before we open the gates. If you (or anyone in this thread) wants to be a part of that early beta, let me know and I'll make sure you're added to the list. My email is ryan@adobe.com.
Thanks for the clarification @sbruchmann. I am typing fast and not checking all my grammar, so I'm bound to exclude someone, somewhere... even groups for that matter.
@redmunds the Project Parfait sounds awesome. Thank you for the tip.
@ryanstewart I will email you. Much appreciated!
There's nothing wrong with using more than a single tool for development. Personally, I like to keep graphics and code in separate tools. Single (or limited) purpose program tend to be better at their thing anyway.
To help you going hopefully, @robr24, you could use XnView to browse through PSD files just as quickly, and get a whole bunch more features. Oh and it's freeware of course.
For everyone following the comments in this bug, checkout the latest update on "PSD Lens" here http://blog.brackets.io/2014/06/10/update-on-the-comp-to-code-tool-in-brackets/.
There's a video demo of new features we've been working on and a link to sign up for our private prerelease.
Thanks @jasonsanjose already signed for the beta test. I am currently working on a video that compares Brackets with Sublime-Text3, Light Table & Geany (bluefish and gedit lost already in many points). I will mention this improvement at the end of the video to give a heads up to the viewers.
The extension is now available as "Extract for Brackets" in the extension manager. See http://blog.brackets.io/2014/11/04/brackets-1-0-and-extract-for-brackets-preview-now-available/.
Is there a way to work with a PSD file without signing in to the creative cloud or joining Adobe is mandatory?
@asbruff Second that. Because it doesn't actually work. I can login, and I couldn't get a PSD uploaded.
On top of that, I don't want to rely on CC for this. I don't want to give Adobe my PSD's, simply because they're a US-based company, but also because I have no way of knowing whether any copyrighted material residing inside the PSD, is permitted to be uploaded to an external target.
That's exactly the same reason i don't want to upload my PSDs. I guess after uploading Adobe will get the property of files. They could redistribute or modify our work and so on. And then i'm not a big fan of clouds, even if they're creative...

I can't open file psd (vs 1.1). It read to 90% and not show, why?. Can you help me?
@1012042 Please file a new bug and provide as much as detail about the PSD as possible. If you can actually share the file with us, that would be ideal.
So we cannot open the PSD file from our computer directly into the Brackets? Why should I (before using it on my local machine):
why make it so hard?
Not only hard, but needlessly hard. Brackets is by Adobe. And Adobe of all companies should have at least some idea of how to read a PSD properly. If they'd use the same library in Brackets as they did in Photoshop, it should be dead-simple.
And it would get Photoshop a babystep closer to a Linux version as a bonus ;)
Adobe doesn't want to lose you. They force you to use the Creative Cloud, they don't want to share the library and make it open or it would be deadly simple to make good changes to gimp or any other open source software...
The evidence that they can handle PSD properly is the fact that everything is converted as it should be in the creative cloud. They just want make this service available in it.

@thany The Extract for Brackets extension relies on the Creative Cloud "Extract" service, so it can't work without access to that service. But if you want similar functionality while offline, there's also an Extract feature in Photoshop itself.
@asbruff Re "I guess after uploading Adobe will get the property of files." No, of course that's not true at all; see the bold note at the top here. But please use an Adobe forum if you want to have more discussion about Creative Cloud overall.
No, okk, you're right.. i had some readings after posting that message :(

@peterflynn I get that. But that's the problem. Relying on an online service that folks might not trust, and requires a (very fast!) internet connection to work. What I'm suggesting is to rebuild the Extract plugin to not require these things, and use the local installation of Photoshop (perhaps kinda like MS OLE in from the days gone by) to extract resources and things.
Completely offline, no third parties in between, and as fast as the computer gets.
I understand this is probably a lot of work, but I'd like you to understand why Extract is just simply a no-go for many.
We definitely understand that the way the feature is implemented is a limitation for some users. But currently there aren't any plans to do an offline version that wouldn't require use of the service. There isn't a lot of overlap between the service and a standalone version, so it would be a tremendous amount of work to implement.
We know that means not everyone will be able to make use of it for a variety of reasons. But I do want to re-iterate, as @peterflynn pointed out, that Adobe does not get legal rights to your files when you upload them to the Creative Cloud. There are definitely other reasons for not being able or wanting to use the service, but I wanted to make sure that point was clear. Section 3 of the Terms of Use covers that in detail.
Hi - this plugin does not appear to observe the brackets proxy setting. Can you advise?
@KiraBialczynska Interesting, I think we must have overlooked that. I'll add it to the backlog. Just so I'm sure what you mean: you've set the proxy
preference and Extract isn't using that for it's requests, right?
Exactly. It has improved live preview but Extract has still problems with connection when I try to open a PSD from Creative Cloud.
I have exactly same issue.
I'm working from behind proxy, I've set "proxy" option and I can install extensions, etc, but cant connect to Creative Cloud.
I'm getting this:
[node-error 3:32:44 PM] /ims/profile/v1?bearer_token=LONG_TOKEN_HAS_BEEN_REMOVED&callback=jQuery213026016339450143281433255489185&e4b-target-domain=https%3A%2F%2Fims-na1.adobelogin.com&=1433255489189 - Error from EventEmitter3.emit(): Error: connect ECONNREFUSED---------NodeDebugUtils.js:114
A network error has occurred. Are you connected to the internet?----------------------/ims/adobeid.js:118
Is there any workaround / temp. fix for this ?
Regards
Update from the Brackets team
The Extract for Brackets extension is now available. It is included in default downloads of Brackets and can also be installed via Extension Manager.
