running in 'clamshell' mode? #34

I often have my XPS 13 attached to an external monitor and keyboard. To keep the laptop out of the way, I usually just close the lid (sometimes called 'clamshell' mode), and things appear to work fine. However, during extended periods of use with higher cpu use, I've had the machine freeze up or X crash and restart on me.

Does anyone else run the machine with the lid closed? Ever experience these crashes?

Not sure if that is related to running with the lid closed, but I'm wondering if the lid closed might be interfering with the fans/cooling of the device and thus causing the error? (The machine feels warm, but checking lm-sensors after such a crash shows temperatures at ~ 55C, hot but well below the listed critical value of 105C).

I work with the lid closed and I don't have problems as you've described. When I am using the Android simulator or other consuming processes, the laptop is warn but it works well. I am using Fedora 22.
