View Local AREA Events - feature #267

Maddy at NNSW shared how he often gets churches mentioning how they can't find out what all the near events are so they can, for example, recommend them to people as followup opportunities etc.

AP could have a setting in the Events Widget to display all events that are within [x] km of their Place. And a link to view 'near by' events display on the local feed.

The issue:

  1. Conference events: a. are they appropriate for members or public, b. would they need to put their events into an AP site, or Cloud even?

  2. Churches using other systems, without AP, how do their events make it in.

Facebook events, is also an though bubble, if that were possible again.

A plugin for Wordpress also, could one be developed and that would catch some independent site events (including many conferences)

Perhaps an AdCloud portal (if it is to remain) that churches (registered) can add events to - if they were committed to such thing - though then entering 3 times (website, FB and Portal).

Or the conference can add/collect events to be 'sucked out?.

Perhaps start with AP only feature, displaying all events with a selected distance (from lat long details) 20km for city, 100km for country areas? Shoudl be reasonably easy to implement as a short term partial solution.

I think Nearby Events will only work if it’s a curated list of events, otherwise you’ll have churches on Adventist Place submitting they’re weekly service as an event which isn’t helpful and will result in people seeing the feature as not-useful.

Having thought about this more, I think this feature would be best implemented on adventistchurch.com - one central place to find events.

It may just be that Adventist Place has an easy way to submit an event to adventistchurch.com for approval (e.g. tick a box when creating an event)
