I would also like a bit more clarity about where checks are left, and what obstacles are and aren't in logic (the background is pretty noisy, so the sprites are a bit hard to track). Something like having a numbered box on each path, and having a halo around each "boss", to more easily differentiate them from the background.
Some more ideas:
Probably revisit the colors of the filler location boxes, differentiate by checked/unchecked
Slight glow along the entire path once it's open to the player
