Cellular Internet Doesn't Reconnect #52

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Connect to cellular Internet.
2. Wait for Internet to disconnect and the E icon to disappear.
3. Internet does not reconnect.
4. Reboot and cellular Internet again connects.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Internet should reconnect when it becomes available again. This has happened to
me multiple times, but under different circumstances. I don't know what is
causing the Internet to get into a bad state.

What is your device, RootFS, Multiboot and kernel versions?

N900, (probably class 2) microSD, NITDroid installed just a few weeks before 11
October 2010.

What was installation method?

Manual partition, automatic installation.

Please provide any additional information below. Logs (logcat, dmesg) are
highly appreciated. (log collector available @
http://downloads.nitdroid.com/android-log-collector-1.1.0.apk)

I don't have 3G Internet where I live, so it is difficult for me to provide
additional feedback. I don't remember whether I tried to disconnect cellular
data and then reconnect, but if I did try it, it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure that turning cellular data off and then back on will not fix
the problem. When I boot NITDroid, I see the E notification regardless of
whether I have 3G Internet available, but after it gets into a bad state,
turning cellular data off and then back on doesn't make the E reappear.

I just got cellular Internet to work while I'm at home for the very first time,
so I might be able to help provide additional feedback. That is, unless my
Wi-Fi happened to say it was disconnected before it was actually disconnected.
:-(

Here is one way that I thought might reproduce the bug, but did not reproduce
it.
1. Boot with Wi-Fi off.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi, which makes the E disappear.
3. Disconnect Wi-Fi, which correctly makes the E reappear. (This is the point
at which I thought I got cellular Internet from my home.)

I didn't realize it when I submitted this bug a few minutes ago, but I think
the title/subject would more accurately be something like Cellular Internet
Becomes Uncorrectable. I think it does reconnect when it's working correctly,
but when it gets into the bad state, it stops working.

It takes a little while, but it doesn't seem to be too difficult for me to get
it into the bad state.

I have a similar issue occur on N12 too, 3G data will be connected then it will
lose connection and won't reconnect until I reboot (even tried turning data off
and back on, and wifi on and off). Have not captured logs to go with this yet
and it is intermittent.
