Same thing for me, played on Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22.04, but this only happens on Windows 11. Just played the game without flashlight (asked my friend to unbind F), even though it was a bit inconvenient.
What is strange to me, it's that flashlight works for my friend, but for some reason crashes on my side. We both play on highest settings (I looked somewhere that changing shadow or lightning settings, might help).
Hi, unfortunately I'm unable to troubleshoot as I'm not getting this crash on my pc. Some of the console commands posted here could help.
I found that it was an issue with the potato lighting option, at least for me. Changing it to low seemed to help. Im guessing it's probably some jank issue with my laptops Quadro
In my case, it's GTX 1650, i'll try later with low settings.
I'm still getting crashes on occasion, but at least it's a weirdly inconsistent crash rather than it crashing whenever someone turns on their flashlight, so thats a good sign lol
@17314642 Did this solution work for you?
@Alienmario unfortunately no, at the time of testing, I was playing in Xen world and it started crashing even more, all without flashlight involved. I just finished the game and deleted it, didn't try to test it further.
Ah yeah, that's because there's HEV zombies with flashlights in xen.
This has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I have personally never been able to recreate it on my machine, and I haven't been able to figure out what the common link is. I've simply had to disable using flashlights on my server and tell players to use muzzle flashes to navigate in the dark.
Perhaps it could be something as simple as setting the dx level with +mat_dxlevel xx
launch option.
If someone were able to try it out, it would be appreciated.
Eg. Start with 95 and keep going lower (see https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Mat_dxlevel)
I dont think the Xen zombies use the same kind of flashlight that the players do. I surprisingly didnt get many crashes at all in Xen. Just the weirdly inconsistent ones.
Re-test is needed on latest version, which disabled flashlight beams from other players.
Im almost certain this is just a me thing and I just have terrible luck but whenever I'm in a SourceCoop server and someone turns their flashlight on, my game closes. I haven't found any crash logs and to other players in the server it looks like I either timed out or had the error of "Steam auth ticket has been cancelled"
I tried verifying game integrity, I used the new UI, etc. I think turning the dynamic lights up from potato to low might help ive heard? But I can't test that atm. So I'm just putting this here in case anyone else is having the issue.
