Selectable subtitles files charset #244

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open a ISO 8859-1 (or Latin1) encoded subtitle file
2. Activate subtitles

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I'd expect to see readable symbols for the charset, instead I see the the
subtitles as if they had been encoded in Mac Roman.

I found the "select charset" in the preferences... however, It'd be useful to
have some autodetection algorithm in place. UTF and unicode can be detected
fairly easy, and Mac Roman vs Latin1 vs ASCII code pages could be detected
based in the "usable" characters for each charset and making sure the active
file encoding is only using those usable characters, otherwise try another
charset.
