Glad you got it working? Which laptop model are you using? Most MacBook Airs do not seem to need manual driver installs with Freya (mine didn't, and it's the mid-2012 version). That's why I didn't add it to the guide.
I am not that familiar with Apple computer models, but he told me, that its no more than 3 months old. So I assume, that it is probably the newest version of MBAs.
I added the instructions myself and created a pull request ;-)
Actually in more recent builds of Freya the bcmwl-kernel-source package should be included by default... @mank319 what ISO file did you use? Any build since early September should include the package and work OOTB
Oh well that may be an explanation... I assumed, that there simply is no more up-to-date iso build, than this: http://elementaryos.org/journal/freya-beta-1-available-for-developers-testers
That build is from about 2 weeks before that fix was made... would you be willing to try again with a newer build?
I followed the instructions to install Freya on a friend's MBA, which worked like a charm, so thanks a lot.
That being said we struggled a bit trying to get wifi running. Unfortunately the drivers are not included by default, but can be acquired by installing the
bcmwl-kernel-source
package. This is why I'd suppose to include a
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
for those who have problems with their wifi. We used our smartphone's USB tethering to get a connection, that does not rely on wifi, as the MBA does not even have an RJ45 port.
